Dear Friend,

Welcome to simply salt life! I am so glad you are here and feel honored that you have taken a few moments out of your busy day to join me here!  Let me start by telling you a little about myself and the idea behind this blog. I am a high school history teacher and a dance teacher, but have recently put my classroom teaching on hold.  I have an amazing husband and a big white fluffy dog who thinks he is a human! I love art, although I can’t paint or draw if my life depended on it. I love to cook and bake; my husband never complains when he has to “try a new recipe” or taste test something I am baking!  I am passionate about foreign mission work and love to travel, especially since it gives me time to read many of the books I started but still need to finish. We currently live in Florida and I am finding that there is truly nothing better than a good book on the beach!  I say currently living in Florida, because my husband is in the Navy and at this moment we are moving quite frequently.  However, I cannot complain too much about getting to decorate a new home each time!  Alright, enough about me…

As for this blog, it is first and foremost a response to the Lord’s leading in my life. He and I have wrestled for some time now, with me playing the role of the ever innocent and falsely humble Moses, standing before his burning bush. I had my lists of excuses all lined up as to why I shouldn’t start writing. But the Lord works in mysterious ways, and He has taken me on a such a journey to bring you and I together on this page.  So let me start by saying, this was His idea and I hope to keep it that way.  I love that, unlike in Moses’ time, we do not have to rely on another person to hear from the Lord.  We can step into communion with Him at any moment of any day, but I will say that there are many times in our lives and throughout our day that this world is so noisy it can be difficult to hear His voice. I don’t know where you are on your journey and I don’t know what God has in store for you, but it must be pretty special, because He has gone to great lengths and creativity to use someone as unqualified as myself to tell you just how much He loves you. This blog is for you just as much as it is for me. It’s for the person sitting on the plane next to me at the moment, and the gentleman I bumped into at Starbucks this morning; it’s for my dear family and my wonderful husband; it’s because God asked me to be obedient to His calling and I have truly run out of excuses.

We’ve all read or heard the scriptures that call us to be the salt of the earth (Matt. 5:13, Mark 9:50). We are called as Christ followers to be preservers of the Word and the flavor that people taste in their every day lives, standing out not because we cast judgment, but because we carry within us the one true God able to bring life to the broken and hurting in our world.  Boy, that can be a hard task at times! I often think I taste more bitter or bland to the world than I do “salty!” Being a Christian is no easy task in our world today and only getting harder. My prayer is that this blog can be a little salt in your daily life and in mine so that we can better serve our world and the people around us. This is a place for us to do life together, to encourage one another and to be loved by our Father.

Your sister in Christ,

Aubrey
